The Times Higher Education World University Rankings:

This system focuses on how well universities teach, how much their research impacts the world, how often their scholarly work is cited, how diverse they are internationally, and how much they work with industries. It gives us a full picture of how strong and helpful a university is overall.

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU):

ARWU looks at universities that win big awards, have famous researchers, and publish in top science journals. This shows how much a university helps with important science research and new discoveries.

Ranked 14th globally, the University of Melbourne holds the title of Australia’s top university in 2024. It leads other Australian institutions in academic and employer reputation, while ranking second only to UNSW for employment outcomes.

In the QS World University Rankings 2024, Australian National University (ANU) is ranked 34th. This marks a slight decline from its 30th position in 2023 and 27th position in 2022.

In the 2024 QS Subject Rankings, UNSW Sydney has 19 subjects ranked in the top 50 worldwide and 10 as the best in Australia. Recognized as one of the world’s top universities, UNSW Sydney is highly ranked in 47 subjects. Notably, six UNSW subjects are in the global top 20.

Griffith University ranks 35th in the 2024 Times Higher Education Young University Rankings, climbing 11 places from its 46th position in 2023. This significant improvement highlights its growing reputation among young universities globally.

The Group of Eight (Go8) consists of Australia’s top research-intensive universities: the University of Melbourne, Australian National University, University of Sydney, University of Queensland, University of Western Australia, University of Adelaide, Monash University, and UNSW Sydney.

Over the past three years, from 2022 to 2024, Victoria University has maintained a stable position in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Rankings. In 2022, it was ranked in the 601-650 range, in 2023, it shifted to the 701-750 range, where it remains in 2024.

The University of Sydney enjoys greater international recognition compared to its domestic counterpart, UNSW. Within Australia, both universities are similarly recognized. However, UNSW offers slightly fewer majors than the University of Sydney.

UNSW Sydney excels in sustainability, ranking second in Australia and 10th globally in this category. According to QS, the sustainability indicator assesses the social and environmental impact of universities as centers of education and research.
